Being able to stop your dog at a distance is critical for both hunting and hunt tests/field trials. For spaniels a good stop whistle is required regardless of which class you are participating in, for retrievers it becomes more important higher up in the classes, however even in lower classes there maybe times where you will need to stop your dog. It is also great tool on everyday walks and just as a good recall it will allow you to give your dog more freedom and off-leash time. Therefore, the stop whistle is something we spend a lot of time on, starting the training as early as possible.
In this course you will learn how to teach your dog the stop whistle and how to develop it with increasing distractions. We will also outline how to train the stop whistle in water.
The course is based on the same training mindset as the book Retrieving for All Occasions. It is not necessary that you have the book to take this course; although we strongly recommend it as it contains lots of helpful background information as well as an entire chapter on casting and blind retrieves.
